BilimOS is a lightweight, user-friendly operating system tailored specifically for students and teachers in middle and high schools, designed to enhance educational processes and digital literacy.
Many middle and high schools utilize computers with outdated hardware and a variety of Microsoft Windows versions, often unlicensed. This situation, coupled with low-end hardware, complicates students' learning and hinders the development of essential computer skills.
BilimOS Desktop Interface
To address these issues, we are developing BilimOS, a lightweight and secure operating system based on a popular Linux distribution like Ubuntu.
Our goal is to provide an intuitive and distraction-free learning environment. This is achieved by customizing the XFCE desktop interface, known for its similarity to Windows, high customizability, and lightweight nature. The interface is specifically designed for educational settings with simplified navigation.
A central hub, similar to Koç University’s LearnHub, allowing students to track classes, submit assignments, and receive grades. Teachers can manage coursework, assignments, and grades.
An application to help students develop blind typing skills and improve typing speed and accuracy.
An application for teaching students the fundamentals of the Linux terminal.
A tool to help students learn and master basic keyboard shortcuts, enhancing their computer skills.
Designed to run smoothly on older, low-end school hardware where modern systems struggle.
Based on open-source Linux, BilimOS is free to use and aims to be more secure than unlicensed software common in schools.
Specifically designed for middle and high school students and teachers, with pre-installed educational tools.
Aims to improve students' computer skills, regardless of their future career paths.
